Who Am I?

Elaina Whittenhall, LPC-AT, ATR-BC

My Background

I started my career in religious publishing, where I worked on books that helped people think through important issues in their lives. I went on to receive a master of arts degree in systematic and historical theology, as I learned to think through some of the important spiritual issues that had shaped my own life.

During this time, I discovered the healing potential of creative, emotional expression, learning to feel through important emotional and spiritual issues. Instead of being content to help others from behind the books I edited, I decided I wanted a more direct connection to others who are looking for health and healing, so I pursued a master of science degree in art therapy with a specialization in counseling.

I am now a licensed professional counselor (LPC-AT) and a board-certified, registered art therapist (ATR-BC). When I'm not working, I continue to enjoy reading (memoirs and nonfiction) and making expressive art, and I also love any reason to photograph nature and life's experiences.

The privilege of a lifetime is becoming more of who you are.

- Joseph Campbell

My Approach

I truly believe it is a privilege to be able to learn more about ourselves and what makes us tick, but I understand that not everybody feels that way. For some, internal searching only produces more self-hatred. If that describes where you’re at, I hope you will allow me to walk alongside you on your journey. As a gentle, attuned therapist, we will work together to slowly explore your internal landscape without judging it, and we will find ways to safely feel and communicate what you hold inside.

There is a crack in everything; that’s how the light gets in.

-Leonard Cohen
